Student Experience & Boarding Life

More than 90% of students live on campus, forming a community that quickly feels like family. Five dorms led by House Parents and Grade 12 leaders create a culture built on respect, support and shared values.

Evenings bring study hall and laughter in common rooms; weekends bring games, trips and time to recharge. Students leave with more than friendships—they leave with maturity, confidence and life skills that last.

Key aspects of boarding life include:

  • Healthy meals and active living built into every day.
  • Nurses on site, weekly doctor visits and counselling support.
  • Leadership and service through house competitions and weekend programs.
  • Freedom balanced by responsibility, preparing students for university life.

Notre Dame treats the physical, emotional and spiritual safety of students as a core responsibility. A dedicated health team, clear expectations for respectful behaviour and close relationships with House Parents and staff help create a safe environment where students can focus on learning and growing.

Community at Notre Dame is a way of Life. Assemblies, retreats and Works of Mercy projects connect each student to something greater than themselves. Leadership lives everywhere here: in houses, on teams, in community projects and in everyday choices.

International students quickly find a home at Notre Dame. Pre-arrival guidance, orientation, and English-language support, where needed, help students adjust to Canadian school life and seasons. A welcoming boarding culture and strong peer connections make it easier to settle in, focus on learning and enjoy the full Hound experience.

Indigenous Programming honours culture, strengthens community and brings reconciliation to life through understanding and respect. Students take part in cultural events, Elder visits, ceremonies and ongoing Truth and Reconciliation learning that deepen perspective and foster shared responsibility.
